List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. |
1 | Research materials used in kitchen or bathroom construction | 1.1 | Research and identify types and sources of materials suitable for use in the construction of kitchens or bathrooms |
| 1.2 | Identify characteristics of materials and describe advantages of those materials to each other |
| 1.3 | Identify generic and trade names for materials |
| 1.4 | Identify the workplace, health and safety (WHS) considerations for materials used in furniture production |
2 | Identify materials used in kitchen or bathroom cabinet construction | 2.1 | Identify types of materials used in cabinet construction |
| 2.2 | Determine handling and care requirements |
| 2.3 | Determine the benefits and constraints, including range and cost |
3 | Identify materials used in benchtop construction | 3.1 | Identify types of materials used in benchtop construction |
| 3.2 | Determine handling and care requirements |
| 3.3 | Determine the benefits and constraints, including range and cost |
4 | Identify materials used in door production | 4.1 | Identify types of materials used in cabinet door production |
| 4.2 | Determine handling and care requirements |
| 4.3 | Identify the types finishes available for cabinet doors |
| 4.4 | Determine the benefits and constraints, including range and cost |
5 | Identify materials used in splashbacks | 5.1 | Identify types of materials used to create splashbacks |
| 5.2 | Determine handling and care requirements |

6 | Identify bases/feet for base cabinets | 6.1 | Identify types of bases/feet for base cabinets |
| 6.2 | Determine the benefits and constraints, including range and cost |
7 | Develop proposals for materials for use in kitchen/bathroom construction | 7.1 | Identify requirements from client brief, project sheets or work instructions |
| 7.2 | Select the most appropriate materials to suit the client needs according to the information provided |
| 7.3 | Record the selection of all materials giving reasons for selection |
| 7.4 | Determine the work, health and safety (WHS) and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and considerations for the materials selected |
| 7.5 | Develop a proposal for materials for use in an inexpensive bathroom cabinet fitout and a ‘high end’ kitchen, in accordance with common industry procedures |
Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include:
following work instructions, procedures and safe work practices

using manufacturer catalogues and computer operations for internet access and searches
identifying and reporting on a range of materials used in kitchen or bathroom construction, including:
a range of materials used in cabinet construction
a minimum of at least four (4) types of materials used in kitchen construction or a minimum of at least two (2) types of materials used in bathroom construction
a minimum of at least four (4) types of material used in benchtop construction
a minimum of at least four (4) types of material used in door production - (one (1) door material and three (3) finishes)
a minimum of at least four (4) types of material used to create splashbacks
a minimum of two (2) bases/feet for base cabinets
benefits and constraints of each selection, including cost
handling and care requirements of materials selected
developing a proposal to put forward a range of materials to construct an inexpensive bathroom cabinet fit-out or a ‘high end’ kitchen
explaining the reasons for selection of material put forward to client based on appropriateness, range and cost

Assessors must:
satisfy the assessor competency requirements that are in place at the time of the assessment as set by the VET regulator
have vocational competency in identifying materials suitable for kitchen and bathroom construction, at least to the level being assessed, with relevant industry knowledge and experience
Assessment must occur in a sufficiently rigorous simulated environment that reflects realistic workplace situations.
Conditions for assessment must include access to all tools, equipment, materials and documentation required, including relevant procedures, product and manufacturing specifications associated with this unit.
Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.
